In the Dance Conservatory, dancers are able to explore multiple levels of dance in the genres of ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, modern and tap. Auditions for the conservatory places participants according to ability, experience and talent. They can also choose to take elective classes solely from the Dance Conservatory. We encourage dancers to make the most of their instruction to help them reach their goals professionally and academically using dance as a stepping stone.
Auditions are held by appointment only and for assessment of skill level and placement, not for acceptance into ICPA.
Prepare a 2-4 minute dance solo demonstrating a wide range of your dance techniques and artistry. It may be a dance you choreographed or a dance someone has choreographed for you (please be sure to credit the choreographer). Technical prowess, presence, musicality, expression, and performance quality will be evaluated to determine placement in the Dance Conservatory.
If you have skills in more than one dance form (jazz, modern, ballet, tap etc.) you may wish to present two separate shorter pieces to demonstrate your talent.
If you are a beginner and have no prior experience or training you must audition anyhow. Just inform the adjudicator(s) that you are auditioning for one of the open beginner slots.
